At a 9:00 A.M. press conference, Michigan athletic director Bill Martin introduced ex-West Virginia coach Rich Rodriguez as the new head coach of the University of Michigan.
This hire went from being a debacle to the University, to a very intriguing situation. Rich Rodriguez comes to Michigan alongside numerous members of his coaching staff, many recruits, and an excitement on the offensive side of the ball that hasn't been had at Michigan since the forward pass.
The Rodriguez hire is a risky one, as it is a near complete shift from the offense Michigan faithful have grown accustomed to. On offense, expect the quarterback to be in the gun nearly every play. Expect misdirection. Expect 4 wide. Expect the option. Expect excitement.
On defense, expect bending. Expect some breaking, but expect a lot of turnovers. Rodriguez brings the 3-3-5 stack defense, where 5 defensive backs are in on every play. Usually, one of the five is an extra safety playing inside the box.
The fun begins...... soon!
