Red Wings defeat Capitals in shootout

Thomas Holmstrom decided to play hockey last night. In his return to the Red Wings after an injury, Homer scored twice in his first game back.

Despite Pavel Datysuk's three assists, he had one costly penalty in the 3rd period. With about 2:30 left in the third period, Datsyuk's attempt to clear the puck failed as the puck sailed over the Joe Louis boards resulting in a Delay of Game penalty. Washington would tie the game on that power play.

However, the Red Wings came back strong in the shoot-out. Going a perfect 3/3, Jiri Hudler put the final goal past Capitals' goaltender Olaf Kolzieg on the backhand for the Red Wings win.
