The Detroit Tigers have announced that they have traded prospects Jair Jurrjens and Gorkys Hernandez to the Atlanta Braves, for veteran shortstop Edgar Renteria.
"Renteria batted .332 in 124 games with the Braves in 2007, scoring 87 runs and collecting 30 doubles, 12 home runs and 57 RBI. He tied for third in the National League with a .332 batting average."
This is a good move for the Tigers, as it gives them the ability to have Curtis Granderson drop into a more power role the line-up. He is a good defensive player, committing 9 errors in 124 games. This move supplements the speculation that Carlos Guillen will move to first base.
