Twas a night in Dallas, Texas and hockey was being played.
The Red Wings, bringing in their 2-0 series lead parried the Stars' attack for the first half of the game and came out with zeal in the second half of the contest.
In the Red Wings 5-2 win, which gets them 1 win away from the Stanley Cup Finals, Pavel Datsyuk (left, scoring his second goal) had a hat-trick, with Jiri Hudler and Henrik Zetterberg chipping in the other two goals.
Red Wings, most impressive team in playoffs.
The Red Wings play a very different style of hockey than most would be accustomed to. It is perfectly suited for the new NHL, a league built on speed and finesse. The roots of the Red Wings' style is from the European leagues, which is almost fitting based on the high amount of European players on the Red Wings' roster. There, they play a puck possession strategy where you hold the puck for as long as possible, maximize your scoring chance and limit your opponents.
In short -- its keep-a-way on ice.
Not only does the style of play benefit the Red Wings, but the hustle does as well. The Red Wings have a very rare combination in hockey, or for any sport for that matter in Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk. It is rare in any pro sport to see a player be not only a weapon on the offensive end but also being great on the defensive side. Datsyuk and Zetterberg are perfect examples of this. Datsyuk finished the league first in +/- while Zetterberg finished fifth.
This is the type of playthat has to have its roots from somewhere in the organization.
Then, I come to the head honcho of the hockey team, Mike Babcock (Above, instructing his troops)
Babcock came to the Red Wings from Anaheim and has not looked back since.
From Day 1, Babcock has preached hustle, whenever you are on the ice be it in practice, in an exhibition, in a regular season game, or a game to put you into the Stanley Cup Finals.
And now, the hustle has paid off. The Wings sit a game away from the Stanley Cup Finals, where they would face either the Pittsburgh Penguins of the Philadelphia Flyers.
Hopefully, the Red Wings will bring another championship to Motown.
Because certainly the fans need it.
And the players more then deserve it.
