Pistons - Celtics : Game 5 Review

Unfortunately, the Pistons decided to do nothing but make a short appearance at the end of their game five in the Eastern Conference Finals.

This was one of those games where just by looking at the Box Score, you can see what happened
  • Pistons outrebounded 42-25.
  • Rasheed Wallace had four (4) rebounds
  • Boston's PG Rajon Rondo out-rebounded every Piston individually.

This was just an awful game, an atrocious effort, and a sad display of basketball. To watch this game and be this disturbed by the lack of good play hurts and the blame honestly falls on the shoulders of three people.

The Guilty Parties:

Pistons' PF Rasheed Wallace:

Game 5 Stats: 18 Points (on 6 3-pointers), 4 rebounds
The Verdict: Rasheed is guilty as charged here. His job is to be the guy on the glass and on the block posting up his defender. He didn't score anything but three pointers and his lack of rebounding contributed to the Pistons' woes in that area. While Rasheed's 3 point shooting is a valuable commodity, it cannot be his main weapon if the Pistons wish to be successful.

Pistons' SF Tayshaun Prince:

Game 5 stats: 8 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds

The Verdict: Once again another Piston is guilty here. While Tayshaun's stats wouldn't show it (3-7 from the field), it is clear that Tayshaun is not playing to his ability. He has past up open shot after open shot and has proved to not be a scoring threat like he was earlier in the playoffs, especially against the Magic.

Pistons' Coach Flip Saunders:

The Verdict: Guilty by Association. While a lot of the blame can be placed on the players, the coach must always receive some of the blame. Saunders must find a way to utilize Rodney Stuckey more and get his players back to playing the roles they need to play as his head may be on the chopping block if the Pistons cannot make a comeback in this series.

Can't crucify Tayshaun though, can he? He guards the opponents best player (usually) and doesn't lose us games.

Without Rasheed, we aren't in the game, but your point is understood.

And the guilty remain guilty for game 6.
