Based on the results of the Michigan head coaching search, two things become evident:
1. The Michigan job no longer has the luster it once had. U of M's descent to mediocrity has made the job an average destination, and Michigan just cannot lure anyone away from a descent job.
2. Bill Martin has no idea what he is doing. He has dragged Michigan through the dirt in the past few weeks, including getting denied by Rutgers (yeah, I said Rutgers) head coach Greg Schiano.
Here would be my list of candidates:
1. Jon Gruden
2. Sean Payton
3. Kirk Ferentz
4. Les Miles
5. Mike Trgovac
The Do not Hire under any circumstance List:
1. Mike DeBord
2. Ron English
3. Brady Hoke

Michigan's record in the last few years, especially how they have performed in their bowls, has cast them in pretty negative light which is probably the biggest factor in coaches like Shciano not accepting the job. Michigan has been perenially good, but not recently. The coaches who do not accept UM's offer seem to be doing it just for the enjoyment of snubbing a once great football team.
